Alewijnse Marine has started the new year with an assignment for the Jumbo heavy lift crane vessels HLCV Jumbo Javelin and HLCV Fairpartner. Alewijnse will be delivering an upgrade of the alarm monitoring and control systems (AMCS) that the company originally fitted during the construction of the two heavy lift vessels in 2004. The automation systems for both vessels will be prepared and installed on board during the course of 2019.
Alewijnse has been contracted for the delivery of a completely new AMCS interface, an upgrade of the existing PLC processors and an interface that will enable safe remote maintenance of the vessels’ systems. In addition to the standard alarm monitoring functionality, the AMCS also includes the control and visualization of the advanced loading and ballasting system, power management, power generation and distribution, fuel management and many other vessel-related systems.
Optimal operational reliability
Alewijnse Product Manager Johan van Rikxoort said: “We are delivering and implementing a new HMI (human machine interface) for the integrated AMCS with the latest functionality. In addition, the PLCs will be upgraded while retaining their existing functionality. All this will make the system faster and more efficient, resulting in maximum uptime and optimal operational safety.”
Alewijnse’s significance to Jumbo vessels
Alewijnse played a significant role in the building of the J-Class vessels for Jumbo. As well as for Jumbo Javelin and Fairpartner in 2004, Alewijnse also delivered the automation and electrical installations for Fairplayer in 2008 and Jumbo Jubilee in 2009. In addition, Alewijnse continues to provide electrical service support on board Jumbo’s Fairplayer and Jumbo Jubilee.
Continuity in the refit market
“Alewijnse successfully managed a series of service requests from the Yachts, Marine and Offshore, Dredging & Transport markets last year,” continued Johan van Rikxoort. “This certainly contributed to the award of the new automation contract for Jumbo Javelin and Fairpartner to Alewijnse. The new project also shows the continuity in the refit of offshore vessels. In this market we are happy to supply the Alewijnse AMCS and other hard and software solutions.”
Jumbo Javelin and Fairpartner
The J-class vessels HLCV Jumbo Javelin and HLCV Fairpartner are in service since 2004 and specialise in shipping and offshore construction work. With 144-metres in length, each of the heavy load vessels is fitted with two, 900-tonne cranes with a combined lifting capacity of 1,800 tonnes. They are equipped with extra thrusters and modular accommodation. In addition, the HLCV Jumbo Javelin has a DP2 dynamic positioning system. With these specifications and a high transit speed the advanced Jumbo vessels are well equipped for cost-effective offshore transport and installation solutions.
