As Sector Manager I am involved in regulations and policy in the field of the environment and emissions, sustainability, innovation and yachtbuilding. It is important for me to have daily contact with members of Netherlands Maritime Technology to hear which issues are at play and what opportunities or problems they expect from future regulations. I also keep them informed of upcoming regulations and policy. In addition to the member companies throughout the Netherlands, my work sphere consists of various Ministries in The Hague, several European organisations in Brussels and the International Maritime Organization in London. Wherever I am, I always try to promote the interests of the Dutch yards and suppliers as best I can.
I have a maritime background. I was a maritime officer at P&O Nedlloyd for several years, and later worked as ship engineer at Jan De Nul. After that I returned to the shore where I was active as technical superintendent at Van Oord. I spent some ten years working abroad and saw a great deal of the world and maritime technology. At the same time I obtained a Master’s degree in Maritime Science at Ghent University. Maritime regulations and policy have always held my interest. The position of sector manager at NMT is in line with these interests and allows me to actively promote proper, functional regulations and policy for our fine shipbuilding sector as a whole.
In addition to my role as Sector Manager, I am the dedicated contact person (Member Advisor) for a number of members. I am also pleased to support members with any substantive questions or advocacy related to the sector or individual companies on a (regional, national, European and international level).
