Trade association Netherlands Maritime Technology provides this training course in close cooperation with TNO and MARIN. The highly qualified trainers will provide you with the latest knowledge on noise and vibrations. Besides, you gain more insight during the practical pontoon tests at the Delftse Schie.
Most design practices in the maritime and offshore industry ignore the dynamics involved in structures and equipment. Rulebook and design practices tend to cover the dynamic issues through applying ‘design’ factors which are based on empirics. Occasionally, a minimum margin is specified between natural frequencies and excitation frequencies. In most cases, by following this approach, designers and engineers are safe. However they are also severely limited in their design options.
As dynamics is perceived as ‘difficult’, designers and engineers tend to shy away from the subject and rely on external specialists instead. Consequently the designers/engineers and specialists do not speak the same language and opportunities are missed to avoid dynamics issues and design healthy systems. For years scientifically sound methods and practical know-how for dealing with noise and vibration has been available. Nowadays also suitable calculation tools and measuring equipment have become available at very low costs.
With this in mind, TNO, MARIN and Netherlands Maritime Technology have decided to subject their successful evergreen training Onboard Noise & Vibration to a total make over. Following the feedback from training alumni the focus will be shifted from theoretical to pragmatic, although theory will remain a core element. The training will be setup around two common vibration issues and two common noise issues, which will be dealt with, both theoretically and practically. Actual tests will be done during the training, including air-borne and water-borne noise isolation, vibration isolation and the tune mass damper.
The training offers you knowledge on the principles of noise and vibration and how to keep them under control. This knowledge will enable you to better position yourself and your company as a co-maker of ships and offshore structures.

Target group and lecturers
This course is intended for (project)engineers, naval architects, people involved in R&D, technical managers and instructors. Lecturers and hands on instructors of the knowledge institutes MARIN and TNO will make you familiar with the subjects as listed above.
