February 9 2021
“A shipyard in Bath, Maine (USA) specializing in the design, building and support of complex surface combatants for the U.S. Navy has chosen to implement a Nieland Shipbuilding Press to help create more complex and innovative plate shapes.
In 2021 one of our flagship presses, a SBP-1000, will be shipped and installed at the shipyard in Bath. The instrument features specially designed cranes which meet the standards of the shipyard and of Nieland. We will deliver three tool sets that make it possible to perform bending, stamping and rolling on one instrument. Training will be an important part of the implementation and is provided by Nieland, during this course our experts will transfer their knowledge of cold forming.
The shipyard decided to choose for Nieland after a close collaboration in designing the SBP that meets their needs. Using cold forming they will be able to innovate with shapes of plates in 2D and 3D and quality of plate structure and fitting. In addition the process of creating these complex plates will be significantly faster.”
