October 7 2024

Thecla Bodewes Shipyards is proud to announce the successful delivery of MV Vertom Lisa to the Vertom Group. This 7,280 dwt LABRAX vessel is the sixth in a series of 12 vessels, 10 of which are for the Vertom Group, to be completed by Thecla Bodewes Shipyards.

The long-standing collaboration between the Vertom Group, renowned for its commitment to quality, reliability and innovation in the marine sector, and Thecla Bodewes Shipyards, recognised for its expertise in shipbuilding, has resulted in MV Vertom Lisa, a vessel that exemplifies the highest standards of maritime engineering and design.

Equipped with a diesel-electric propulsion system, MV Vertom Lisa incorporates state-of-the-art technology to ensure maximum fuel efficiency, safety and environmental sustainability. Her advanced design optimizes performance while reducing environmental impact, in line with the industry's evolving sustainability goals.

The MV Vertom Lisa, part of the Labrax series, was designed by Thecla Bodewes Shipyards and Groot Ship Design specifically for an electric propulsion system. The Labrax series marks an important milestone in the development of sustainable shipping solutions and is therefore fully in line with the ambitions of both the Vertom Group and Thecla Bodewes Shipyards to make a significant contribution to the transition to an emission free shipping industry.

The diesel-electric propulsion system on board MV Vertom Lisa, combined with the advanced power management system, minimizes energy losses, reduces overall fuel consumption and reduces CO2 emissions. This desired result has already been proven in the performance of the first five newbuildings, MV Vertom Patty, MV Vertom Cyta, MV Vertom Tomma, MV Vertom Anne Marit and MV Vertom Anette. In addition, the installed propulsion power on board the MV Vertom Lisa is significantly lower compared to vessels with the same cargo capacity and conventional propulsion. With a length of 118.60m, a breadth of 14.30m and a full-box cargo hold of 329,700 cuft, the Labrax 7.280dwt offers competitive transport solutions.

MV Vertom Lisa embodies the innovative spirit and technical excellence that Thecla Bodewes Shipyards is renowned for. Equipped with the latest navigation systems, energy-efficient propulsion system, and environmentally friendly features, MV Vertom Lisa is designed to set new standards in operational efficiency and environmental stewardship.

The handing over ceremony took place in Harlingen seaport with representatives of both companies attending.

"You would think it would almost become commonplace to deliver a LABRAX ship to Vertom Group, as this is already number six, but nothing could be further from the truth. It remains a special event  and a celebration of not just the delivery of a new vessel, but the dedication, expertise, and passion of our entire team. The LABRAX series underscores our commitment to innovation and excellence in shipbuilding," says Thecla Bodewes, CEO of Thecla Bodewes Shipyards. "We are proud to continue our collaboration with Vertom Group, delivering vessels that not only meet but exceed industry standards for sustainability and efficiency."

“I'm pleased with the addition of MV Vertom Lisa to our fleet and looking forward to the upcoming six vessels, bringing us to a total of twelve newbuilding vessels,” says Arjan de Jong, CEO of Vertom Group. “We're noticing a shift in the market—our customers are increasingly seeking sustainable solutions. While the transport sector undeniably impacts global emissions, these new vessels represent a stepping stone toward a cleaner future. We're proud to offer our clients these greener options to help improve their global footprint.”

The successful delivery of MV Vertom Lisa underlines the joint efforts of the Vertom Group and Thecla Bodewes Shipyards in shaping the future of maritime transport. With its innovative features and commitment to sustainability, this vessel, together with her sister vessels, sets a new standard in the industry.
