Join Horizon 2020-funded NOVIMAR for its mid-term conference on 21 November in Brussels! The conference tackles advances in development of the vessel train concept. Hosted at the FOD Mobility venue, this event aims to gather shipping professionals from public administrations in EU countries and EU institutions, as well as actors from the academic and private sector.
The goal of this mid-term conference is to present NOVIMARs project results achieved thus far. Therefore international experts will address technological, economical and societal impact of the remotely controlled inland waterways navigation concept. How can the control systems best be optimized? What lessons can be drawn for additional human skill requirements based on simulation experiments? What sorts of business models seem to be feasible? And what obstacles could be addressed when looking at acceptancy of smart shipping concepts from an insurance point of view? Furthermore, there will be room for an open discussion with the experts touching upon additional topics such as safety and security.
Organizing this conference, the NOVIMAR-team would like to involve a broad European audience: starting from the representatives of the European associations and networks, national and regional policymakers engaged in the topics of inland waterways and short sea development as well as company owners and academic staff.
Do you want to join us? Then do not hesitate and register yourself at www.novimar.eu/midterm. The participation is free of charge.

Quick summary: a new system of waterborne transport operations
In the NOVIMAR vision, future waterborne transport operations on short-sea, sea-river and inland waterways can be performed by vessel trains. Such a vessel train will consist of a number of vessels, the lead ship and individual ships with reduced crew or remotely controlled.
The NOVIMAR project aims at adjusting the waterborne transportation such that it can make optimal use of the existing short-sea, sea-river and inland waterways, thus expanding the entire waterborne transport chain up and into the urban environment.
