Maritime Institute Willem Barentsz (MIWB) is a maritime university of applied sciences which provides maritime technical studies (consisting of a bachelor’s, master’s, and associate degree), as well as a variety of short courses, and innovative professorships that focus on creating smart and sustainable industries.MIWB connects marine industries, education, and innovation – and has done so for over 140 years. By working closely together with businesses and governments on assignments and traineeships, MIWB offers students hands-on experience, creating opportunities for both students and corporations.As part of NHL Stenden University of Applied Sciences, MIWB has over 600 full-time students, a full mission simulator training centre and its own seagoing training and survey vessel. Its professorships facilitate extensive research into maritime management, law, and innovation.MIWB’s mission is to continue to provide high-quality ship’s officers, naval architects, and hydrographic surveyors for national and foreign merchant fleets and industries. All while being the Centre of Excellence for maritime training and simulation in the Netherlands and beyond.These goals are achieved at two locations, Terschelling and Leeuwarden, by a staff of about 50 people.
